The term “African American” does not define a minority or a race. It defines someone that is either from the continent of Africa or whose ancestors are from the continent of Africa.

Africa comprises 53 countries and almost a billion people. A LOT of people there are of different races. Egyptians, Moroccans, and Tunisians are African as well. 9.2% of the population of South Africa are white.

The exclusionary nature of your question is distasteful

I’m not African American, but what the heck. I need points, I’m a minority, and I need to express myself.

    WOOOOHOOOOO!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO OBAMA!!!

    I don’t care if I get 10 thumbs down.

    OBAMA RULES!!!

Not being an African American, I feel left out, so I will answer the question anyway. I also voted, and I also won!! I am a truck driver, and since midnight of the 4th, I have noticed a bit of a difference out here on the road. People are driving a little less aggressively, they are driving a little more cautiously, and I notice the cars with Obama stickers are a little nicer now compared to McCain stickers. Overall, I think we took a collective sigh of relief, and we see a brighter future ahead.

There are only 3 races. African American isn’t one of them.

I feel a great sense of relief that finally there is a president in America who cares about the people. He is going to do an awesome job, I have full faith.

I suppose people form Egypt (Africans as well) living in America may proud as well. Maybe even Charlize Theron (from South Africa).

Are you addressing ALL African Americans or only those of a certain race? Are you asking about black people from Jamaica, Haiti, Barbados, etc. if THEY are proud as well, or don’t you care what they think??

Why does everyone feel the need to hyphenate their citizenship these days? Don’t you think using terms like African-American is like saying that you’re African first, and American second? Most of the Black folks I know come from families that have been here since the triangle trade. The same goes for Irish-American. Are you maintaining dual citizenship? NO…so knock it off with the division. We have questions now that aren’t open to us white folks? What’s next, separate drinking fountains? Listen, my point is, let’s stop with the division. Dr. King’s legacy is being spit upon by this nonsense.
