    To answer your question;

    Yes, the election of Barack Obama has put a step in African Americans today, they think they are getting a free ride in government programs now and retrobutions for slavery as well.

    we thought it was impossible and/or we would never see something like this happen. Politics is a white-man run arena. From slavery to Jim-Crow where blacks couldnt hold office, till now its a totally emotional event for us. All of our great-grandparents and grandparents who suffered through such periods of discrimination, suppression, those who have died brutally, lynched and raped, they all didnt die in vain. I am still crying.

    From my point of view, I think yes this has put a skip in the step of the African American Community,

    It shows that a young black male can grow up to be anything he wants to be. Now I know that some may say they should have already known that, But I disagree. Black Males are often stereotyped to grow up to be nothing more than either a drug dealer, gang-banger, sport figure, or a prison inmate in the progress. How often do you hear families saying that their child is going to be a basketball star, or track star, or some big football player in the pro’s? All the time. But in retrospect you hear white families tell their children that they can grow up to be President, Why? because that is what you see. You’ve always seen a White President, so they know they can grow up to be just that. Now you have a Black President, and now little black boys and girls everywhere can instead say that they want to like Barack, not Kobe, Ryan Howard, or McNabb.

    I think it shows hope to those who may not at one time had a direction, or a purpose. I hope that Blacks everywhere appreciate the significance of this election, and the significance of an African American President, not just look at it as a rub in the face to those opposite of color.

    Even without this election it’s been time for white and blacks to put aside their petty differences and come together as one. I served in the Army for 4 years from 98 to 02, and didn’t care one bit what color my battle buddy was when were in the foxhole overseas. The only color that ever mattered to us was the Red, White and Blue. I wish people everywhere in the U.S. really understand that with division there is no progress.
